Angel — bronze sculpture

A slender figure with raised arms rises from wide-spread wings that form a gentle open arc around it. The form is reduced to the simplest elements — a sphere for the head, a rounded body and a long robe flaring softly to the base — with no facial features and no unnecessary detail. The gesture of the lifted arms reads at once as welcome, as joy and as protection. The sculpture is handmade: cast in bronze, then hand-worked and hand-patinated.

This is handcrafted work in which the finish carries all the power — the green-turquoise patina is applied by hand in layers, while the golden lines along the edges of the wings and robe are created by rubbing the surface back by hand. As a result, the tone of the green and the path of the gold accents are different on every casting. The upright, flat form takes up little space and displays beautifully on a sideboard, shelf, windowsill or by an entrance. Its universal imagery of protection, hope and good energy makes it a thoughtful gift for a christening, a communion, a wedding, a housewarming, or as a thank-you to someone close.
